APC Imo: 'Imo North by-elections Have Not Caused any Chaos and Division in our Party'

A member of the ruling committee of the All Progressives Congress in Imo State has said there is no crisis in the party.

Enyinna Onuegbu made the remarks in an interview with the BBC about the by-elections held to elect the party's flag bearer in the upcoming Imo North Senatorial election.

Following the election, some members of the party released a statement confirming that Ifeanyi Ararume had won, while others showed that the winner was Ibezim Frank.

That is why some journalists say the Imo state APC party has split.

But Onuegbu said the story was not true.

The results suggest that Ifeanyi Ararume has won, but APC officials in Imo state say that is not true.

He said: "The winner of our by-elections in Imo North was Frank Ibezim."

"That's what our party leaders in Abuja know."

Onuegbu added that the document shows Ararume's name as the winner of the election which is a huge lie.

BBC Igbo contacted FCC Jones, the distributor of the result, who claimed that Ararume had won, but did not answer his phone.

BBC Igbo also tried to get Ararume's phone number, but we could not.

Benjamin Uwajumogu, a former North Democrat speaker of the Senate, has resigned.

The Imo North seat in parliament is already vacant because incumbent Benjamin Uwajumogu has resigned.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said it will hold a general election on the last night of October.

Other prominent parties have also nominated e-mails and fielded candidates in the by-elections.

According to reports, Mr. Patrick Ndubueze of Okigwe has been nominated by the Peoples Democratic Party, while Mr. Charles Onyirimba of Ehime Mbano has been nominated by the All Progressives Grand Alliance.
